Gershon Ben Keren

Gershon Ben Keren is the Head Instructor at Krav Maga Yashir. He brings decades of elite-level training, academic insight, and real-world experience to students of all backgrounds. He is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga starting his training, in Israel, in 1993. All his belts and instructor certifications were awarded in Israel. He is a published author with multiple Amazon best-selling titles on Krav Maga, including tactical survival, real-world solutions, and extreme survival. He maintains a weekly Krav Maga blog that has been running continuously since 2012and frequently provides commentary for media outlets on violent crime and self-defense.

In 2010, Gershon was honored as an inductee into the Museum of Israeli Martial Arts (Herzliya, Israel), recognizing his contributions and expertise in the field. His training lineage includes instruction from Israel’s most respected Krav Maga masters, including Dennis Hanover, Miki Assulin, and Eyal Yanilov.

Beyond Krav Maga, Gershon holds advanced academic credentials: two master’s degrees — one in Psychology from Newcastle University, and another in Criminology & Criminal Psychology from the University of Essex. His work as a criminologist influences his approach to dealing with real world violence. Rather than trying to “imagine” how real-world violence unfolds and/or limiting it to his own personal experiences working within the security industry – which may not be universally applicable - he uses current research to inform himself as to how violent situations develop and occur.

Since 1990, Gershon has worked extensively in the private security sector, focusing on mitigation, risk management, and self-protection consulting. Whilst basing his understanding of violence on current research his decades of security experience help to inform and enhance the Krav Maga curriculum he delivers. Gershon is an international trainer who has taught Krav Maga in Israel, Europe, Africa and the USA.
